What you can safely do yourself
- Turn the system off at the unit and the wall or breaker before you touch anything.
- Remove and rinse the reusable filters as shown in your manual, then let them dry completely before refitting.
- Wipe the outside of the indoor unit with a slightly damp cloth.
- Keep the area around the outdoor unit clear of leaves, rubbish and growth.
What to avoid
- Spraying water or cleaning products into the unit. The inside contains electrical parts.
- Opening panels beyond the filter access in your manual.
- Harsh chemicals or high-pressure water on the coils, which can bend the fins.
What a professional clean adds
Dust, dirt and visible mould can build up on the coil, fan and drain, parts you can't reach with a filter rinse. A professional clean uses a protective cover to help contain water and removed build-up, deep cleans the accessible internal components, flushes and checks the drain, and finishes with an operational check.
So which one?
Rinse the filters yourself as often as your manual suggests, and book a professional clean when you notice the signs it's due or about once a year. Curious what it costs? See our Bendigo prices.
